Day 6 – Maui AKA ‘Whale Soup’

We were greeted this morning by breaching whales as we dropped anchor in the waters just off Lahaina.  It was a calm morning with hardly any wind to disturb the water so the whales were very easy to see and they were really performing!!  Such a treat!

We made our way to the ships’ tenders about 9 o’clock and were able to ‘cut’ into line with our black cards and Betty and Don just followed along as though they owned the joint!!  We were able to get the seats on the roof of the tender so we had beautiful views as we approached the dock.

We spent a couple of hours trotting up and down Front Street enjoying the shops and then stopped for a light lunch in a restaurant overlooking the water.  It was so peaceful there.

Got back to the ship about 2 and took some time to relax on our balcony and watch the whales perform.  There were several cow/calf pairs that were real performers by leaping out of the water and breaching!  First the mother whales and then their babies!  Everyone watching from their balconies cheered when the breachings happened and there was such exuberance both in and out of the water!!  Lots of fun!!

Another lovely dinner with our new favorite wait team in the Pacific Moon dining room.  We now have some nice attention from the dining room captain so he prepared spaghetti with garlic and oil as a special dinner.  I opted out of that which means I will be hanging my head out of the window tomorrow in the rental car!!  The only one who didn’t eat garlic……today.  Yesterday’s ‘shrimp truck’ garlic is just leaving my system!!

I have to say that of all the cruises we’ve enjoyed, the food on this one has been truly outstanding.  Thank you, Chef Carlo Persia!

Tomorrow we dock in Kauai at Nawiliwili Harbor and have another car reserved.  Yes, you guess it.  Another sporty mini-van!  Woohoo!

Our plan is to drive up to Wailea Canyon and take in the sights.  Then we’ll just follow our noses and see where we end up!
